Beerwah is a quaint town located in close proximity to Bruce Highway, and is part of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It is situated about 80 kilometers north of Brisbane, and has a population of 1429. Its postcode is 4519.


The town is easily accessible via the Steve Irwin Way, which is an offbeat track from Bruce Highway. This hinterland town is home to the Australia Zoo, the Beerwah Railway Station and is also home to the Glasshouse Mountains, specifically Mount Beerwah. Nearby towns include Coochin Creek, Peachester and Crohamhurst.

Name Derivation and History

The town's name was derived from the local dialect. Beerwah refers to tall, fruit-bearing trees. Meanwhile, Mount Beerwah came from the name give to an eroded volcanic plug in the area. Today, Beerwah is a continuously growing hinterland town which boasts of many tourist attractions.   read more
